Pre-surgery Guidelines for Obesity Surgery

Bring the file containing necessary pre-surgery evaluations, approved by all specialists, along with the results of tests, ultrasound, and endoscopy.
Bring insurance confirmation if you have insurance or supplementary insurance.
The patient must shower the night before surgery and remove any body hair from the surgical area, using an electric shaver (not a razor).
Prepare a pair of anti-embolism socks that go up to the knee or just below the knee to prevent embolism.
Before the surgery, avoid any makeup or jewelry, including nail polish.
The arrival time at the hospital is typically in the morning, which should be coordinated with the clinic receptionist.
Any medications, especially for thyroid, diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol control, anticoagulants such as aspirin, or birth control, must be discussed during pre-surgery consultations, and proper guidance must be obtained from the follow-up team.
Solid foods are prohibited after 9 PM the night before surgery. Only clear liquids such as water may be consumed up to 8 hours before the surgery.
Any post-surgery supplements should be taken according to the instructions provided by the medical team.
If your menstrual cycle coincides with the surgery date, it will not interfere, and no medication is needed to prevent it.

Post-discharge Recommendations

Your hospital stay is usually between two to three days, but depending on your condition and the surgeon’s discretion, it may be longer.
After discharge, you can shower, and there’s no need for additional dressing on the incision site, but a clean gauze may be placed. Keeping the incision area moist will help the healing process.
Wear anti-embolism stockings for up to two weeks after surgery. You should visit the clinic 10 days after surgery for stitch removal and initial examination.
